This hands-on workshop is designed to help you get started with MySQL Enterprise Edition, a powerful database management system. You'll learn the fundamentals of installing, configuring, and using MySQL Enterprise Edition, with a focus on its JavaScript Stored Procedure and Function feature.

In this workshop, you'll work through a series of guided tasks and exercises that will help you understand the basics of MySQL Enterprise Edition, including:

Installing and configuring the server
Creating and managing databases
Using JavaScript to create stored procedures and functions
Implementing a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) stack—or a LAMP stack with Python/Flask instead of Apache/PHP—for web development
Deploying a sample web application, the "Sakila Film Time Converter", which demonstrates the use of MySQL JavaScript functions
By the end of this workshop, you'll have a solid foundation in MySQL Enterprise Edition and be able to start building your own databases and applications. Our goal is to provide you with a comprehensive and practical introduction to MySQL Enterprise Edition.

  • Lab 1 - Create Linux Compute Instance
  • Lab 2 - Install MySQL Enterprise Edition
  • Lab 3 - Setup Sakila Sample Database and JavaScript Function
  • Lab 4 - Install, configure, and test  Apache/PHP Web Server

  • Lab 5 - Install, configure, and test  Flask/Python Web Server

     

  • Familiarity with MySQL  Database is desirable, but not required
  • Some understanding APACHE and PHP or Python  terms is helpful
  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is helpful
